“Achieving excellence
through tradition and education”
Choral-Hull is an exciting project, reaching into schools, to teach children how to sing in groups, and to work together to produce beautiful music. Children who receive a musical education, who learn to create music and to understand the cultural importance behind the music that they are singing, grow as individuals. They develop a confidence in performing, which also nurtures their self-esteem. It also aids learning elsewhere, as children develop discipline and high level of concentration.
Choral-Hull works with primary and secondary schools across the city, in partnership with the City Music Service, to introduce and cultivate children’s experience of choral singing. Opportunities for joining the Hull Minster Choir lead from this, as well as opportunities to perform in concerts and recitals.
The origins of choral music, singing in big groups, are rooted deep in the culture of all societies, and deep in the culture of Hull. From sea shanties to church choirs, we sing together to express ourselves, to build our sense of community and to develop our feeling of belonging. In choral music we become more than the sum of our parts; we become an expression of our very humanity.
